Broadly and violently treat the theme of Rape and Abuse that ends in revenge. It's uncomfortable and necessary.

The way Tiffiani Amber Thiessen suffered in these 90s tv movies is wild.

This is based on the real life story of Linda who thought she had found the perfect husband in James Bergstrom.
There's a book that goes in depth on this case titled: Evil Beside Her: The True Story of a Texas Woman's Marriage to a Dangerous Psychopath by Kathryn Casey.

“IT’S WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW CAN KILL YOU.”
I’m such a whore for these shitty 90’s Lifetime thrillers and I don’t care who knows it. On realistic terms, it’s a bad film with standard storytelling/plot development. Though it packs a punch, leaving you engaged no matter what’s happening.
It’s performances are surprisingly compelling, as the situation feels authentic as it can be. You would think that the story would’ve followed the wife finding out about her husband’s secret, only for him to be locked away immediately, but I appreciate that they toyed with his freedom a bit while using his manipulation skills against her. It stripped away the obvious feel of the film’s outcome, giving it some element of surprise.…

Tiffany Amber Thiessen plays a rape victim who marries a rapist two year later, without realizing he’s a rapist. The usual mid 90s Lifetime domestic disturbance trash, but a decently fun one. Man that scummy husband is lucky her father was in a wheelchair because he would’ve fucked him up!
The all too early reveal to the female lead took a lot away from this as it would’ve been better served midway or later in the runtime. Also look out for a young Alyson Hannigan as a nice treat in a supporting role. Movies of this type were a dime a dozen during that time and The Stranger Beside Me blends right in with the others. 2.5/5

Pretty standard TV thriller, and I might've seen this when it aired in the 90's. Standard or not, it's quite good. You know what's going to happen, but the performances are good and it has a somewhat unsettling atmosphere.
